Remote engine cut — also called engine kill or immobilization — is the feature that turns a GPS tracker from a “finder” into a real anti-theft system.
How it works
During installation a relay is connected between the tracker and a circuit the engine needs to start, such as the starter or fuel pump. When you send the engine cut command from the app or ask the control room, the tracker switches the relay. Once the engine stops, it cannot be started again until the restore command is sent.
Is it safe?
Safety comes first. GVSS recommends cutting the engine when the vehicle is stationary or moving slowly, and coordinating with our control room and the police during a theft. Many configurations only block the restart, so the engine does not stop suddenly on a highway.
